Picnics are a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends, eat tasty food, and maybe even enjoy a bit of sunshine (British weather permitting, of course). To help make your picnic one to remember we’ve put together our top products to help make the day a little easier.
One of the issues with picnics is transporting all the food, plates, cups, and cutlery to your chosen picnic site. This lovely shopping trolley could help with that. Its spacious bag can hold up to 30 litres, making it a great option to help transport your picnic items from one place to another.
Not only that, but this shopping trolley also has a fold down seat attached to it, so you have somewhere to rest if there are no picnic tables available and sitting down on the picnic mat just isn’t an option for you.
Looking for something that can both help you get to the picnic spot and give you a place to rest? This useful mobility aid might be a good place to start. The strong durable frame means this rollator is suitable for use by those weighing up to 36st, and it has an extra-wide seat and curved backrest, giving you a place to sit and enjoy your picnic if there aren’t any picnic tables available. Just remember to put the brakes on before sitting down!
This rollator also has a handy carry basket, so you can store some of your picnic items in there too.
If you like to keep your food separated on the plate and find high sides useful to help get food onto your fork or spoon, then you may find this Portion Plate with Lid an excellent addition to your picnic crockery. It has three sections to it – one larger one with a 375ml capacity and two smaller sections that can hold up to 200ml. It also has high angled walls to each compartment, making it easier to push food onto your cutlery.
This plate also comes with a lid, making it easier to transport food or store it, should you have leftovers after your picnic.
What’s a picnic without a refreshing drink? If your grip isn’t as strong as you’d like, you may find the Non Spill Cup a useful drinking aid. It’s been designed with deep grooves all the way around the cup that helps to make it easier to grip.
To help avoid spills, it has a lid with a wide drinking spout and an ingenious valve that helps to create a vacuum inside the cup. The vacuum created by the valve also helps to make it easier for you to control the flow of liquid, so you could even use it when laying down.
If you find using standard cutlery to be difficult because your grip isn’t what it used to be, it may be time to look into an adapted cutlery set. Each piece of cutlery in this Kura Care set has a chunkier, ergonomically designed handle with moulded in rubber grips to make it easier to grip and hold.
The set includes a knife, fork, and spoon, and is even dishwasher safe. The set is available in one of three colour sets: white with a black stripe, white with a red stripe, or a dark grey with a black stripe.
A picnic wouldn’t be a picnic without the delicious food to eat. Picnics tend to a time of Tupperware, of foil-wrapped sandwiches, and plastic bags, however, if you’re finding it difficult to open food containers you may need an alternative solution.
As the name suggests, the Easy Open Food Containers are designed to be easier to open than other food containers as there’s no turning or twisting needed to get the lids off. Instead you only need to press your hand or finger against the circle on the lid to open it. They’re a great option for helping to keep food fresh.
Not every picnic spot comes with a handily available public toilet – or in some cases, a public toilet that is actually open and not just permanently locked. To help avoid getting caught out partway through your picnic, you may want to consider getting a travel urinal. The Uriwell Unisex Travel Urinal is uniquely designed so it can be used by virtually anyone.
When not in use, this travel urinal collapses down so it can be stored away in your bag. Once expanded, it can hold up to 750ml and has a hermetically sealed lid to help minimise odours and spilling. You may also want to take a blanket with you for privacy if there isn't a secluded area nearby where you can use it out of sight of others.
Not sure if the public toilets at your picnic spot are open or not? The RADAR National Key Scheme is a nationwide scheme designed to give you access to over 7,000 toilets up and down the country. Many of these toilets are locked and the RADAR Toilet Key is designed to unlock them for you when needed. You can find out if there’s a public toilet where you’re going by checking the Great British Toilet Map.
