Over the years, Elizabeth has found her mobility has been severely affected by both arthritis and spinal fusion. She can no longer walk very far and standing for any length of time has become difficult too.
Although she is due to receive hip surgery, Elizabeth is currently in a lot of pain as she is using her knee to take the additional pressure away from her hip, which is contributing to the problems with her mobility.
With her health in decline, Elizabeth is happy to have found a range of equipment to help her stay mobile and remain independent – including crutches, walking sticks, a mobility scooter, stair lift, adjustable bed and reclining chair.
My mobility scooter helps me when we go away as it means I can see more of the place we are staying at. Crutches help when I'm having a good day and can walk a bit further, and my walking sticks help me when I get off my scooter to walk around a shop.”
By having a variety of products to help her move around in different situations, Elizabeth now finds she is much more confident when out and about and is keen to offer advice to others who find themselves in a similar situation.
“If you can't walk very far get a mobility scooter that you can take apart to put into your car boot; they are handy as you can go up to around 10 – 30 miles depending on the scooter you have. I wouldn’t be without mine now.”
We’re really happy to hear that Elizabeth’s mobility aids, particularly her scooter, have enabled her to be more independent and we’re sure they will continue to be useful after her hip surgery too.
