Kay's story: how a rollator gave her a new lease on life

After a hard-fought battle with arthritis, over a number of years, 73-year-old Kay Howard-Challis no longer recognised herself.

Despite having injections in her spine for the past 5 years, very strong painkillers every day and night and a weekly Reletrans patch, her body was still wracked with pain and she no longer felt able to live the way she wanted.

“At the beginning of 2019 I was told that nothing more could be done, even though I was in great pain. Here, I can confess, that I went into a very dark place feeling very sorry for myself."

“I could just about get around my house, as I could sit down to alleviate my pain at any time, but I was gaining weight and I felt shabby in my appearance.”

After noticing a large lump going down the left side of her spine, Kay visited her local doctor, who explained that it was fatty tissue due to the medication she was taking.

“All of this was making me feel even worse about myself and my appearance, and after a 10 week course with the nurse to lose weight, she and I agreed that I must somehow get more exercise.”

The turning point
