Folding or disassembling? Find the right one for you

When choosing the right travel mobility scooter, the main deciding factors are how you plan to transport it and how you’ll store it. Folding scooters can fold down into one single, smaller unit at the touch of a button or by using a lever, whereas modular scooters can be disassembled into smaller parts. The latter being more manageable for lifting than a folding scooter.

Airline friendly and ready to travel

Many of our travel scooters feature batteries that are approved for use by international airline regulations. This means that you can easily take your electric scooter on flights around the world or on cruise ship holidays without having to worry about issues with getting it aboard. It’s worth considering the differing user weight limits on our scooters, as well as ensuring the battery range matches the distances you intend to use your scooter over. Absolutely, many travel scooters are compact and ideal for taking on flights, provided they’re fitted with airline-friendly batteries. Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA) batteries are non-spillable and can stay on the scooter in the hold, whereas lithium-ion batteries that can be removed and are under 300Wh are allowed in hand luggage. Airline policies can vary when it comes to batteries and storage, so we’d recommend checking battery specifications and your airline’s policy before flying.

The weight of each travel scooter varies, but our product specification pages do include the total weight to help you make a decision. Many scooters start from around 40kg, so if you’re looking for a scooter that you can pick up yourself, you may wish to opt for a scooter that can be disassembled into lighter parts.

On a full charge, a travel scooter can travel anywhere up to around 12 miles. Range can be affected by several factors, including user weight, battery type and terrain. Each model that we stock has the maximum range included in the product specification.

Travel scooters are best suited to flat, hard ground as they generally have a lower ground clearance that helps contribute to their compact size. Being closer to the ground means that surfaces such as thick grass, deep gravel or steeper, off-road slopes could be difficult.
